Here are some progress shots of my current projects: This has certainly been one of the more complex stretch garments I've worked on. All the cutouts are done with contrasting mesh fabric layered over the black spandex to add some interest and texture. SEWING TIP: When working with spandex cutouts (check out the torso and back areas), instead of pinning things into place, I like to hand baste them into place, then pull out the threads when I'm done serging. This ensures that none of the pieces migrate. This project is also very much outside my normal sewing comforts. I've just begun exploring the possibilities of plastics in costumes and unlike my previous armor projects, this required a good bit of actual 3D shaping, as opposed to just cutting out flat pieces. My friend Joe, of JPM Coachworks, helped me with this project, because he is the master at covering odd shapes with fabric. Because these shapes have lots of extreme angles and small points, his advice and guidance was super helpful in achiving a nice, clean look. Once these are finished, my upcoming projects will include Franziska von Karma, Diana (Sailor Moon), Emma Skye, and Queen Beryl (PGSM Version). Tags: kuja ninja gaiden progress

Commission for a client. Rorschach jacket. Double breasted, fully lined, notched lapel, epaulets, wrist straps, adjustable belt, decorative topstitching, front and back yokes, back vent, front pockets and buttons. Adjustable left epaulet. I'm also working on some Kuja boots. Here are some progress shots. I've made some additional adjustments since these were taken, so those pictures (along with the finished product) will be in a future journal entry. Lastly, I just finished Gurren Lagann...is it just me, or is Simon totally wearing a neck corset and an underbust corset (black with silver zipper) in his timeskip costume? Here are pictures of some recent commissions: Poison Ivy and Darth Nihilus Poison Ivy: Poison Ivy's traditional outfit was a little too revealing for this particular client, so we came up with a less revealing, but still glamorous, version of the costume. The commission included an ivy covered minidress, ivy covered boots, and a sheer jacket. Nicole, my makeup artist, is the queen of glueing, so she did a lot of work on the dress and boots. I put together the sheer jacket. Darth Nihilus: Includes cape, cowl, balaclava, sleeveless wrap tunic, dickey, waist sash, studded belt, long skirt, short skirt, and man shrug with top-stitched details. Gloves were purchased from Abby Shot (great product - highly recommended). Light saber and mask provided by client. This costume took almost 20 yards of black, crinkled cotton gauze.
